The mic doesn't pick up my question.
Podchat needs Microphone permission. Check Settings → Podchat and make sure it's enabled.
How do I start voice mode without tapping the screen?
There are two hands-free ways to start a voice interaction:
- Say “Hey Pod.” Turn on Voice commands in Settings → Audio. You can also say “play” or “pause” to control the episode without starting a conversation.
- Press your AirPods stem once. A single press starts voice mode, and another press ends it. This works on AirPods models with a force sensor, including AirPods Pro.
Either one pauses the episode and starts listening for your question — same as tapping the microphone button.
Why doesn’t Podchat appear on my Lock Screen?
Podchat keeps the microphone ready the whole time it’s open, so voice mode starts instantly instead of making you wait for audio to spin up. iOS doesn’t give the Now Playing slot to an app that’s holding the microphone, so the Lock Screen, Control Center and CarPlay transport controls stay empty while Podchat is running. Playback controls live in the app.
Which episodes support voice mode?
Every episode you play. Podchat currently has a library of around 100 distinct AI voices. Replies are delivered in whichever library voices match the podcast most closely.
Why can the reply voice sound a little off?
Replies are generated by an AI model and voiced with the closest match from our library. Every response is synthetic and grounded in the transcript around where you paused.
How are voice minutes counted?
Only time that is actually spoken counts — your question plus the spoken reply. The clock is not running the rest of the time:
- Silence and thinking pauses are free. The gap between your question ending and the reply starting is not counted, and neither is time spent sitting in voice mode without saying anything.
- Listening to the episode is free. Playing, pausing, or leaving an episode open uses no voice minutes.
- Interrupt freely. If you cut a reply short, only the part you actually heard is counted — not the rest of the answer.
- No answer, no charge. If something goes wrong and you never get a spoken reply, that exchange uses no minutes.
Minutes are measured in seconds and reset at each renewal; unused minutes don't roll over. See our terms for the full subscription details.
How do I delete my data?
Podchat doesn't require an account, and we don't collect your name, email address, or account information. Voice conversations may be recorded as described in our privacy policy. If you'd like anything removed, email support@podchat.dev.
